Camping at the Lava Tubes

August 2002

Our second trip the Lava Tubes National Monument, about 30 miles south of the Oregon border. As the name implies, lava streams back in the day carved out huge caves which you can walk, crawl, and sometimes barely squeeze through. Great fun.

Looks friendly!
The massive lava crater.
Taking a quick break.
His eyes! They glow like the fires of hell!
Brian explores.
A tight section.
Billy explores a passageway.
Hi Ben!
Almost.....there....
Chris navigates a section.
Once again, into the deep.
Karen wanders through.
Another cool cave.
Into the darkness
Helmets are our friends.
Those stalactytes are friendly.
We made it!
The gang after exiting The Catacombs, two and a half miles of crawling later.
The gang before entering The Catacombs.
Off we go, into the wild black yonder...
Chris tunnels his way out.
Now it's Brian's turn.
Interesting landscape.
A wonderful sight after a day in the caves.
